The Making of a Storyteller

Paul Ricketts is a fair dinkum, proud Australian and he loves to express his passion for Aussie culture and its unique characters by delivering his audience with a good healthy dose of Australian country music. Paul’s material leans towards the storytelling side, with a fresh and modern approach to it.

Paul’s songs are very catchy, and his lyrics are straight down the line. Paul speaks with a fair dinkum Aussie accent, which carries through to his vocal delivery, giving his material that authentic Australian style.

In 2024 Paul was the recipient of the Inaugural Thornton Young Award. The Initiative has given Paul many great opportunities, like performing on the main stage of the Gympie Music Muster with Slim Dusty’s Travelling Country Band, as well as the Toyota Stage at the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival and many other festivals across QLD and NSW . Paul was also granted a scholarship and in 2025 he graduated from the CMAA Senior Academy of Country Music.

In late 2024, Paul received his first Golden Guitar nomination and he hasn’t looked back since recording at LWM House, releasing original material and picking up a few songwriting awards along the way.

Pauls strong story telling ability and quick wit has landed him on shows and festivals with great performers like Chad Morgan, Dean Perrett, Jeff Brown, Lindsay Waddington, Brian Letton, Pixie Jenkins, Pete Denahy, William Alexander and others.

Songwriting is a big part of Pauls musical career. He writes about what he knows best. Being a proud working class Australian and living on the family property in rural QLD gives Paul plenty of content to write about, and he’s written with some well known songwriters, such as Angus Gill, Alan Caswell, Lindsay Waddington, Dean Perrett, Matt Scullion, Bobby Ricks and more.

If you like stories about our soldiers, local heroes, life on the land, mateship, and a lot of other things that are relatable to the everyday Australian, then you’re definitely going to enjoy listening to the songs in Pauls fast growing catalogue.
